What is it about?

The Romanian philosopher E.M. Cioran once said that “every thought is a thwarted sensation. Alan Watts exposes life for the anxiety that it is, “just nerves, startled into a jump by the tiniest ghost of an alarm.” Barthes and Bloom, starting at opposing ends tunnel towards the same truth, making it exquisitely local to the reader and the writer. This is what Synapse Soufflé is about.

Or, rather, this is the space that Synapse Soufflé seeks to inhabit—this is where it seeks to do its work.

In more practical terms, Synapse Soufflé is where American writer and poet J.C. Boucher shares his reflections and meditations, critique and polemics. In a sense there is little that cleanly separates these modes, the work published on Synapse Soufflé can be found in three sections:

  • Objects in Motion - The work posted here represent a mix of poetry or prose of poetic merit.

  • Catastrophic Observations - This section is less frequently updated. You will find longer form pieces.

  • Politics and Polemics - Just like the name sounds. You are not automatically subscribed to this channel, so if you care about my views on politics make sure to subscribe separately.

Additional posts are made under the Inflections tag. These are somewhat more regular short meditations on a broad and unpredictable set of topics.

After much thought concerning meaning, let it be written that there need be none.
